Zeiss-Grossplanetarium Berlin is proud to announce the premiere of Dark Universe, an immersive full-dome show that invites audiences on a visually compelling journey through the fundamental forces shaping the cosmos. The program officially launches on May 31, 2025, offering viewers an engaging exploration of dark matter, dark energy, the Big Bang, and modern cosmological discoveries.
Produced by the American Museum of Natural History in collaboration with NASA, European Southern Observatory (ESO), and several global scientific institutions, Dark Universe combines cinematic storytelling with astrophysics to make complex space science accessible to all.
An Immersive Experience in Modern Astronomy At Zeiss-Grossplanetarium Berlin
Dark Universe presents a scientifically grounded tour of the cosmos, from the early moments after the Big Bang to current models of the universe’s expansion. Visitors will gain insights into dark matter and dark energy—two of the most mysterious components of the universe—and learn how these phenomena influence the structure and fate of galaxies.
Through high-resolution visuals projected onto Zeiss-Großplanetarium’s 360-degree dome, the show offers a clear narrative of how astronomers and physicists are piecing together the universe’s story using data from ground- and space-based observatories.
Live Segment in German Enhances Audience Engagement
To deepen the educational value for local and German-speaking audiences, the presentation includes a live segment in German. This segment is guided by a planetarium presenter, who provides context, commentary, and answers questions, making the show ideal for families, students, and anyone curious about the universe.
The German-language component is designed to encourage a greater understanding of astrophysical concepts and to spark interest in space science among younger audiences.
A Global Collaboration for Public Science Education
The production of Dark Universe brings together top-tier scientific and educational institutions. With narration originally voiced by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson in English, the show has been adapted into multiple languages, including German, to reach a wider audience across Europe and beyond.
The film is supported by real data from telescopes such as the Hubble Space Telescope, Planck, and ALMA, as well as simulations produced by leading cosmologists. This ensures that every aspect of the visual journey reflects the latest scientific understanding.
